School

What is our school like now?

Well,
our school is situated in the south of Poland, in Czechowice-Dziedzice, which is a small town with about 35,000 citizens. It is located near Bielsko Biała, a famous city in this region.

Now something about our everyday life. Nearly 550 students aged 16-19 attend our school. However, it is a quite small building with 20 classrooms. Lessons start at 7.30 and end at about 2 or 3 p.m.  Each lesson lasts 45 minutes. We have 40 great teachers. We can improve our skills by numerous compensatory and extra free lessons (including Computer graphics, Maths, English, French, German, Biology, Physics etc.). The school patron is a famous Polish chemist and physicist: Maria Skłodowska - Curie.

What are the good points and bad points of your school?
At our school we learn too few practical things (too much theory, whereas not enough practice). However, we can develop comprehensively and learning here is a big pleasure for us and our friends. We also think the good point of our school are the teachers. We have very high teaching level and almost every student passes the Matura exam (school leaving exam). And we also have the extra classes that we have already talked about.

What, if anything, would you change about your school?

We think some teacher should be stricter. We suppose it sounds strange from the students’ point of view ;) We’d also introduce a few subjects which would prepare us to real life.
We would also like to “update” our gym and buy new computers. The ones that we have now aren’t as good as students would want them to be. Out IT teacher isn’t very happy about working on those computers. And we would buy comfortable chairs and tables to all classrooms.

School in the past:

Do your parents think that school now is better or worse?

In general, our parents think that the level of knowledge we acquire nowadays is comparable with that gained at school 30 years ago. They also claim that students’ motivation to study is also similar. However, Paweł’s parents think that in the past students learnt more.
According to our parents contemporary school should pay more attention to discipline, responsibility, reliability and respect for other people.

Was the time they spent at school useful for them? Have their studies helped them in their life?

Our parents said: ”At school we learnt to cooperate with other people and form good relationship with them. Thanks to school we have many friends until this day.”

Moreover, when Marcin’s mum was at school she got interested in history and national culture. Krzysiek’s mum loved music and playing the piano. Therefore, they went to study these subjects, and today they work as teachers at schools.
Certainly their time at school wasn’t wasted, because they are still “taking advantage” of what they had learnt then. Paweł’s aunt also thinks that learning at her school was very useful and it is very helpful now in her work.

We hope you will enjoy reading about our school!
